Compañía Panameña de Aviación, S.A., abbreviated COPA and commonly referred to and branded simply as "Copa Airlines", is the flag carrier of Panama. The airline was established on June 21, 1944, and started operations on August 15, 1947. It was founded by a group of prominent Panamanian investors with assistance from Pan American World Airways, which took a 32% stake. Its logo (especially the early versions: https://www.copaair.com/image/journal/article?img_id=2431857&t=1510948670162) and corporate identity even was based on PanAm's logo (and most likely flag). In 1998, Copa formed a partnership with Continental Airlines, adopting a new brand image. Copa is a subsidiary of Copa Holdings, S.A. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copa_Holdings). The airline is also the main operator and owner of Colombian airline AeroRepública, currently known as Copa Airlines Colombia (official website: http://www.copaair.com/sites/co/EN/pages/homepage.aspx)
