About the flag

Nesseby/Unjargga municipality is situated in Finnmark county.
The municipality has two official names; one is Saami, Unjargga , and one in Norwegian, Nesseby. In official use, the Saami name is mentioned first.
"In red a yellow upright cloudberry plant." This is the description of the flag of Nesseby/Unjárgga municipality as found in the Royal resolution dated 27 June 1986. Finnmark is known for the cloudberries (Rubus chamaemorus) growing on marshes and wet fields. The plant has a stem with two kidney shaped, which easily lends itself to the symmetry preferred in heraldry. The soft and juicy berry, rich in vitamin C, is a resource that is of importance both commercially and in private households. It is used to make jam, or eaten with whipped cream as a dessert. The berries are at first red, but when ripe they get a golden or orange colour, so the flag's colour combination of yellow and red is highly appropriate.

Cloudberry is also used in Finland to produce an "original Finnish liqueur" called "lakka". I quote the label of the bottle:
"The cloudberry (Rubus chamamemorus), the mysterious berry from the wilds of Lapland, grows in a narrow belt in the Arctic area of the Nordic countries."
The liqueur is rather sweet (21 °C), and I enjoy it particularly with strawberries and raspberries.

However, R. chamaemorus seems to be found not only in Scandinavia, but also in Ireland, north of the United Kingdom and north of Germany, mostly in peat bogs.
