Coat of Arms

[COA of Andøy] image by Tomislav Šipek, 29 January 2016

Blazon: Delt av blått og sølv ved virvelsnitt mot venstre. In English: Azure a schnecke argent from base sinister to sinister.
(The "virvelsnitt" is known in German as Schneckenschnitt, but there is no quite appropriate English equivalent that I am aware of. See also http://mistholme.com/dictionary/schnecke/ as well as http://bth.eastkingdom.org/ILoIs/2004/2004-Jul-04/2004-Jul-04-ILoIC.html)
Approved by the royal resolution of 7 January 1983 after a drawing by Hallvard Trætteberg after an idea of Henry Oddlo Erichsen. [c2j87]
The design represents a wave, similar to the of Dønna, but whirling the other way.
