Blazon: I sølv fem grønne eikeblad i rosett. In English: Argent five oak
leaves vert in rosette. [or: ...in annulo stems to centre.]
Approved by the royal resolution of 7 September 1984 after a drawing by Alvhild
Ulseth.

Oak leaves were chosen as Tingvoll has the northernmost autochtonous oak wood.
The abovementioned municipal web site recounts that Ulseth made the design as
part of her diploma thesis at Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art
Industry (since 1996 Oslo National Academy of the Arts), defended on 5 November
1982. Among other symbolic, she stated that five leaves stand for five towns in
the municiplaity: Tingvoll, Straumsnes, Gyl, Torjulvågen and Meisingset.
