BlazoN: På grøn grunn ei gull kvelvingsbru med tindar. In English: Vert an
arched embattled bridge or.
Approved by the royal resolution of 19 June 1987 after a drawing by Jarle
Skuseth. [c2j88]
The design is explained on the
municipal web site. It
represents the Skodje bridge - the Straumsbrua, at its time the largest stone
bridge in Northern Europe , finished in 1922. It is since 2004 no longer used
for car traffic. A new similar looking bridge was constructed in vicinity -
making spectacular view from one bridge to another.

The old ones are the Skodje Bridges (Skodjebruene), two bridges that cross
the water in two small steps, with an island in between. (The South side is an
island as well, crossed by a tunnel and with a small flat bridge to cross the
last narrow channel.) Of those two, Skodjestraumen bru is that largest stone
bridge of Northern Europe. This is now the cycle route.
Straumsbrua is the new larger bridge that crosses Straumen in a single step.
