Coat of Arms

Blazon: I sølv et svart bjørnehode, sett forfra. In English: Argent a bear head caboshed sable.
Approved by the royal resolution of 1 March 1985 after a drawing by Truls Nygaard. [c2j87]
The municipality used a design looking like a rectangular postmark or similar mountaineering seal depicting a bear among some fir trees in a landscape, before the adoption of the current arms. [c2j87] shows the emblem. The book also explains that the bear head in the current design is shown with a red tongue, following the medieval heraldic traditions.
