Blazon: I grønt en sølv tvillingstreng skråstilt venstre høyre. In English:
Vert a bend sinistre gemel argent.
Approved by the royal resolution of 23 January 1987 after a drawing by Alf
Hammervold after an original design by Tom S. Vadholm. [c2j87]
The symbolic is explained in various ways on the
municipal web site.
First of all the two bendlets symbolize the two important trafic routes through
the municipality - the railroad and highway from Oslo.
There are two parishes (sogn) in the municipality, Nittedal, know for the
matches factory of 1863 and Hakadal, made famous in Norway through traditional
nursery rime "Kjerringa med staven" (it would make something like: Old Lady with
the stick). Both matches and "staven" may be see in the bendlets.
The bendlets may also be interpreted as lumber that was important industry in the
municipality. They also may be seen as ski tracks, for famous municipal hiking
routes.
Finally, the colours stand for woods and snow as well as the silver waters of
Nitelva.
The regulations provided at
https://www.nittedal.kommune.no/Handlers/fh.ashx?MId1=457&FilId=60 also
prescribes the ratio for the flag to 22:16 (i.e. our "default" 8:11)
