"On 10 Dec 1932 the "Vereenigde Tankreederij" (United Tank shipping company) was founded by Nieuwe Matex, Pakhuismeesteren, Tankmaatschappij Dipping en Phs. van Ommeren. Pakhuismeesteren brought 6 ships, 4 motorboats and 2 tugs, with a tonnage of 1.335. For that it got 65 shares, 25%. The total fleet consisted of 20 ships, 7 tugs, all brought in by the participating partners - at the time a sizeable fleet.

The VT ordered in 1935 a new ship: the "Vlissingen", a motortanker of 432 tonnes. Just after the war another new ship was ordered, the "Venlo". In 1946 19 ships were already sailing.
In 1957 the fleet consisted of 68 ships.
In 1995 VT started co-operation with C. Koole Tanktransport for transport of edible oils in the Netherlands - Koole 60%, VT 40%. Under the name of Koole VT VT participated with 8 ships. At the end of August 1996 VT withdrew and sold its shares to Koole.

In 2006 Vereenigde Tankrederij and Zwaans van den Heuvel Tankvaart, together known as Unilloyd, have been working over 70 years as important barge-operators on European inland waters as reliable partners for the petrochemical industry.
