Flagdescription: five equally wide horizontal stripes of red and black.
This flag was adopted 29 May 1961 by municipal resolution, after the
citizens had used it already for some time. Previously the municipal council
used a flag with seven horizontal stripes of black and red (in which black
dominated). The colors are derived from the municipal arms. In the 17th
and 18th century Zierikzee used a totally red flag, with a black lion.
Furthermore "Smallegange, Mattheus: Nieuwe Cronijk van Zeeland, deel
1. Middelburg, 1696" shows a red flag without any ornamentation.
Zierikzee is since 1 Jan 1997 part of the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland.
