Oostdongeradeel: introduction
Flag: "Blue a trice waved white fly-wise bar with in the top hoist a yellow
lily, and in the lower fly three bundled corn eaves whereof one standing
and two bent." Adopted 17 Dec1963; modified 7 Jul 1964, abolished 1984.
Oostdongeradeel is in northeast Friesland, northeast of Dokkum, from
which it derives its (old) name: Dockingheradeel. It is an agricultural
region, since 1984 part of the municipality of Dongeradeel.
The white wavy diagonal on the flag symbolizes the former river Paesens,
which separated Oost- and West-dongeradeel. The lily might have been added
because it looked nice and the three ears symbolized fertility.
