In 1905, the school's founder, Saionji Kinmochi, allowed the school to inherit the name "Ritsumeikan," and the name of the foundation was changed to Ritsumeikan, and the name of the school to Ritsumeikan University. In 1913, university's emblem, which featured the two Chinese characters 立命 for "Ritsumei" in a graphic design, was also adopted in line with this change. Around 1935, the university emblem was changed to a gold color for the word 立命"Ritsumei" and a silver color for the word 大. It is said that it was around 1941 that the current university emblem with 大學 on the word 立命 was adopted.
