Ensign

The yacht ensign of the virtual Club Powerboat, Ireland, is shown at http://www.powerboat.ie/forums/index.php?/gallery/image/216-cpb-ensign.jpg. Dark blue field with Irish national flag in the canton, and the club’s symbol, yellow, in the fly.

Interestingly, the warrant is cited here: http://www.powerboat.ie/forums/index.php?/topic/1514-warrant-to-fly-club-ensign
“I received notification this morning [10 May 2007, jm] that the Minister of Transport has approved a warrant "authorising generally members of Club Powerboat.ie Motorboat Club to fly on their vessels the approved flag in lieu of the National Flag on specified Irish Ships has been approved in accordance with section 10 of the mercantile Marine Act 1955, Formal approval by way of a warrant is enclosed.
It is suggested that the warrant might be suitably framed and displayed on the Club's premises or in your situation, their website" (...)

Many thanks to all for their inputs over the last year on this Club project and a special word of thanks to Gavin (Stifz) for his graphic design input, the Mercantile Marine Office in the Dept of Transport and the Chief Herald's Office in Dublin Castle.”

The text of the warrant itself is accessible to members only, but we get the idea.

Burgee

[Clifden Boat Club]image located by Jan Mertens, 10 April 2011

A special case among Irish yacht and motorboat clubs is Club Powerboat for being entirely virtual: http://www.powerboat.ie/forums. This website has a forum and member section (including blogs), a calendar, a photo gallery, etc. Club Powerboat’s burgee is offered here: http://www.powerboat.ie/forums/index.php?/store/product/4-club-burgee.
“Club Burgees are the small triangular flags also sometimes known as pennants. No particular flag etiquette is associated with or required with Club Burgees. Th[e]y are just [a] nice way of telling other water users what Club you are a member of. Our Club Burgees are a high quality double sided burgee.”
Attachment < ie~cpb.jpg > shows this elaborately designed item: dark blue field, a boat screw seen side-on in the hoist, said screw and name “Club Powerboat.ie” in the fly rendered in a burnished gold colour; evoking the screw’s movement in the water are two meandering lines or sinuses emanating from it, coloured green, then white, then orange - the national colours.
There is a yacht ensign as well.
