Presentation of Pokupsko

The municipality of Pokupsko (2,492 inhabitants in 2001, 259 in the village of Pokupsko) is located in the very south of Zagreb County, as its name clearly indicates in the region near the Kupa river, some 50 km south of Zagreb. The municipality, which encompasses 14 villages on the left bank of Kupa, separated from Zagreb in 1995.

Flag of Pokupsko

The symbols of Pokupsko are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi općine Pokupsko, adopted on 19 May 1996 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 24 September 1996 in the Zagreb County official gazette Glasnik Zagrebačke Županije, No. 16.

The symbols are described in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Pokupsko, adopted on 21 September 2001 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 28 October 2001 in Glasnik Zagrebačke Županije, No. 16. This is repeated in the current Statutes Statut Općine Pokupsko, adopted on 27 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 29 July 2009 in Glasnik Zagrebačke Županije, No. 19.

The flag is blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.
The official description of the coat of arms mentions the oak leaves' "plume" around the shield, as may be seen on the wall depiction of the coat of arms, although obviously this "plume" is not present on the flag. The description of the flag also mentions a "yellow edge", which should be interpreted as a fringe rather than the flag's border, and which is apparently not present on the flag on the abovementioned photo.

The coat of arms is: "Azure a church argent roofed gules behind the walls with two corner towers also argent roofed gules each topped with a white flag. In chief a mullet and a crescent or and in base a barrulet wavy argent".
The church is the church in Pokupsko dedicated to the Ascension of the Blessed Virgin Mary, formerly known as the St. Ladislaus church. It may be that this is based on some previous seal of the community. The wavy line represents river Kupa.
