Presentation of Privlaka

The Municipality of Privlaka (3,776 inhabitants in 2001 in a single village of the same name) is located some 20 km south-west of Vukovar.
The municipality was formed in 1997 by secession from the Municipality of Otok, which, at the same time, was raised to a Town. Privlaka (kod Otoka) should not to be confused with Privlaka (kod Nina) in the Zadar County.

The coat of arms of Privlaka (image) is: "Or a bend sinister argent overall a church also argent roofed gules".
I guess that this is a representation of the local parish chuch dedicated to St. Martin the Bishop, built at the end of the 18th century.

Article Natječaj za izbor idejnog rješenja grba i zastave Općine Privlaka, published on 8 May 1998 in Vinkovački list (scan) announces a public contest for the municipality symbols. The coat of arms should include "these components: - historical development of the village, economic characteristics, a symbol for the Bosut river, affiliation to Christianity". The components prescribed for the "ceremonial and official flag" are "- affiliation to the County, colour of the place, the coat of arms of the Municipality of Privlaka". The deadline was set to 30 days, with prizes set to 5000, 3000 and 2000 kuna and 15 days for the Commission to take a decision after the end of the contest.
