Presentation of Slatina

The Town of Slatina (13,686 inhabitants in 2001, 10,208 in the town of Slatina) was known until 1997 as Podravska Slatina.

Flag of Slatina

The symbols of Slatina are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Grada Slatine (Prečišćeni tekst), published in 1997 in the Town official gazette Službeni glasnik Grada Slatine, No. 7, after Ministry approval had been granted on 27 October 1997. The preliminary Decision Odluka o izmjeni Odluke o grbu i zastavi Grada Slatine, adopted on 30 August 1996, remained unpublihsed.

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.

The flag is in proportions 1:2, yellow with the coat of arms in the middle.

Coat of arms of Slatina

The coat of arms was originally approved by (unpublihsed) Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Grada Slatine, adopted on 11 October 1994 by the Town Assembly.

The coat of arms is "Azure, a mullet of eight ar above a moon increscent".
It is based on the design published in the Laszowski Coffee Hag Album of the 1930s Grbovi Jugoslavije [lsv39], which is in turn based on the civic seal from around 1860, colored by Laszowski.

The Town's website shows several artistic rendering of the coat of arms with smaller or greater differences, especially noticeable regarding the drawing of the crescent and its face. This is however, the usual heraldic practice. Some of the variations I have seen used on the flag as well, notably such there the black outlines of the coat of arms and its elements are missing, and where therefore the moon face is differently stylized. Again, such variations are very minor.

Rejected flag of Slatina

The flag was originally approved by (unpublihsed) Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Grada Slatine, adopted on 11 October 1994 by the Town Assembly.
The flag was vertical, in proportions 2:5, with a golden fringe along the bottom, and with "the top edge of the coat of arms towards the outer length of the flag".
The proposed flag, not compliant with the regulations, was not approved by the Ministry.
The symbols were actually used, being presented by the Mayors to the directors of the schools of the town (Poglavarstvo darovalo knjige, Virovitićki list, 11 November 1994).
