The University of Rijeka is composed of nine faculties, an academy and a number of other organizations (list).

Faculty of Economics and Business

The Faculty was established in 1961. In 1969 it was joined by the High Education School of Economy in Hospitality Management in Opatija (Viša ekonomska škola ugostiteljskog smjera u Opatiji), and in 1972 also the Institute of Economy in Rijeka (Ekonomski institut u Rijeci). In 1973. it became the University Centre for Economy and Organizational Sciences (Sveučilišni centar za ekonomske i organizacijske znanosti, SCEOZ) with six units: Faculty of Economy, Faculty for Maritime Transport, Faculty for Hotel Industry, Study of Law, Economy and Organizational Sciences Institute, and Foreign Languages Business Study.
From the SCEOZ emerged in 1976 the Faculty of Law (Pravni fakultet), in 1978 the Maritime Faculty (Fakultet za pomorstvo), in 1985 the Econopmy and Tourism Study (Studij ekonomije i turizma) and, in 1990, the Faculty of Economy and Tourism "Dr. Mijo Mirković" in Pula (Fakultet ekonomije i turizma "Dr. Mijo Mirković" u Puli), leaving the individual current Faculty.

The Faculty Statutes Statut Ekonomskog fakulteta u Rijeci (pročišćeni tekst) (text), adopted on 16 April 2014. do not mention any symbol, while its Amendments Odluka o izmjenama i dopunama statuta Ekonomskog fakulteta (text), adopted on 14 April 2014, had changed the official English name from the Faculty of Economics to the Faculty of Economics and Business.
The Faculty, however, uses an emblem consisting of the stylized initials "EF" shaped like four slanted blue stripes with a yellow element. Prior to the introduction of this emblem, an emblem consisting of the initials "EFRI" in openface minuscule Century type within an circular arch was used.

Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management Opatija

The High Education School of Economy in Hospitality Management in Opatija (Viša ekonomska škola ugostiteljskog smjera u Opatiji) was established in 1960 and in 1969 it became the Department for Hospitality Management and Tourism (Odjel za ugostiteljstvo i turizam) of the Faculty of Economics in Rijeka. The Department became the Faculty for Hotel Industry (Hotelijerski fakultet Opatija) in 1974.
In 1999 the name was changed to Faculty of Tourist and Hotel Management (Fakultet za turistički i hotelski menadžment) and in 2008 to the current name.

The coat of arms of the Faculty (image) is described in detail in Article 5 of the Faculty Statutes Statut Fakulteta za menadžment u turizmu i ugostiteljstvu (pročišćeni tekst) (text, adopted on 1 July 2011.
The coat of arms is in a circular seal shape with two double-lined concentric rings with the drawing in the centre representing "the source of knowledge". The source is widening into a blue open book reflected in the water surface, with five leaves, representing the five years of the university studies. It is inscribed around the drawing top left "Fontis sciencia" (Source of Knowledge) and to the right the establishment year "1960". Between the double circles is inscribed above the Faculty name and below in two rows the University name and the location (town and country) of the Faculty.

The Faculty has been using since recently a derivative emblem (image) consisting only of the mirrored "source of knowledge" book with three "pages".

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

The Vocational College of Education (Viša stručna pedagoška škola) in Rijeka was established in 1953 and the Teacher Training Colleges in Rijeka in 1960, Pula in 1961 and Gospić in 1963. The former became the College of Industrial Education (Visoka industrijsko-pedagoška škola) in 1962, and in 1972 the Faculty of Industrial Education (Fakultet industrijske pedagogije). In 1977 the Faculty and the Teacher Training Colleges of Rijeka, Pula and Gospić merged forming the Faculty of Education (Pedagoški fakultet) as a part of the Rijeka University. In 1998 it was renamed to the current name.

The Faculty Statutes Statut Filozofskog fakulteta u Rijeci (pročišćeni tekst) (text), adopted on 7 November 2013, do not mention any symbol. The Faculty, however, uses an emblem composed of the ligatured cursive calligraphic minuscule initials "FFR".

Faculty of Civil Engineering

The Technical and Civil Engineering College (Viša tehnička građevinska škola) in Rijeka was established in 1969. In 1974 it was integrated with the Technical Faculty (Tehnički fakultet), and in 1976 separated, as the Faculty of Civil Engineering Sciences. Since 1982 it has been a part of the Rijeka University and a unit of the Civil Engineering Institute Zagreb, and since 1991 an independant faculty under the current name within the University.

The Faculty Statutes Statut Građevinskog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Rijeci (pročišćeni tekst) (text), adopted on 31 March 2014, do not mention any symbol. The Faculty, however, uses an emblem consisting of the capital Roman initials "GF" within a square.

School of Medicine

The Faculty was established in 1955 as a part of the University of Zagreb and since 1957 it is an independed faculty. In 1973, with the establishemnt of the Rijeka University, it became one of its constituent units.

The flag (photo, photo) is blue with the white emblem over the inscription of the university and faculty names on a line and year "1955" on another line, and overall two white "Croatian squares", touching each other by diagonal vertices.

Article 8 of the Faculty Statutes includes the description of the emblem , as part of the description of the non-administrative seal, as follows:

... a seal oval in shape, with ellipsoid diametres of 45 and 25 mm, on the centre of it a drawing of the main Faculty buiding, and in the top part of the circumference inscribed "Republic of Croatia University of Rijeka", and in the bottom part "School of Medicine" and the seal number.

Apparently, the central part of the seal, that is, the Faculty main building, is used as the emblem of its own.

Faculty of Maritime Studies

The Austrian-Hungarian Naval Academy in Rijeka was established in 1866, since 1889 the K. u k. Naval Academy (Marine Akademie). It was discontinued in 1918, and the Maritime College (Viša pomorska škola) was established again only in 1949. It became the Faculy of Maritime Transport (Fakultet za pomorstvo i saobraćaj) in 1978. In 1998 it was divided into the Maritime College and the Maritime Department of the University, reintegrated in 2001 into the current Faculty.

The flag of the Faculty is light blue with a white disk containing the Faculty emblem encircled with the University and Faculty names (photo, photo, photo). Another light blue flag has the white emblem and white inscriptions in a different font (photo, photo, photo, photo). A white vertical flag with the emblem over the faculty name is shown in an article dated 2010 (photo).

The Faculty coat of arms is defined in Article 5 of its Statutes Statut Pomorskog fakulteta u Rijeci (text), adopted on 17 October 2005, as follows:

The coat of arms of the Faculty is circular in shape, within which are inscribed the letters "PF" with a stylized globe.

The Faculty Statutes Statut Pomorskog fakulteta u Rijeci (text), adopted on 17 October 2011, and Statut Pomorskog fakulteta u Rijeci (pročišćeni tekst) (text), adopted on 21 July 2014, provide a longer description, as follows:

The coat of arms of the Faculty represents a cross-section of the Earth as a sphere with a plane passing through its centre - a large circumference within which is a grid of meridians and parallels.

The Faculty uses the flags of the International Code of Signals around the entrance to spell out its full name.

Faculty of Law

The Studies of Law were established at the Faculty of Economics in 1973. They became the Faculty of Law in 1975 as a member of the University. In 1985 the name was changed to the Faculty of Law of the "Vladimir Bakarić" University of Rijeka, reverting to the current name in 1991.

The Faculty Statutes Statut Pravnog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Rijeci (pročišćeni tekst) (text), adopted on 27 Feburary 2014, do not prescribe any symbol.
The Faculty, however, uses an emblem depicting its new main building.

Faculty of Engineering

The Faculty of Machine Engineering (Strojarski fakultet) was established in Rijeka in 1960, renamed in 1969 to the Faculty of Machine Engineering and Naval Architecture (Strojarsko-brodograđevni fakultet) and in 1973 to the current name.

Th coat of arms of the Faculty is prescribed in Article 9 of the Faculty Statutes Statut Tehničkog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Rijeci (text), adopted on 25 July 2008, as follows:

The coat of arms of the Faculty is circular in shape, in the centre of it is the stylized cross-section of a ship's prow with a geometrical circular shape associating to a machine element. The coat of arms is edged with two concentric circles between which is inscribed: "University of Rijeka - FACULTY OF ENGINEERING".

The two concentric circles of the seal are actually drawn as double lined.

Faculty of Teacher Education

The Faculty of Teacher Education was formed in 2006 by merging the Teacher Education Colleges (Visoka učiteljska škola) of Rijeka and Gospić.

The Faculty Statutes Statut Učiteljskog fakulteta u Rijeci (pročišćeni tekst) (text), adopted on 29 Feburary 2012, do not prescribe any symbol.
The Faculty, however, uses an emblem in a circular seal shape, within two concentric circles the stylized initials "UFRI" and between the circles inscribed the University and Faculty names.
