Presentation of Kaptol

The municipality of Kaptol (4,007 inhabitants in 2001, 1,570 in the village of Kaptol) is located some 10 km due north of Požega on the southern slopes of the Papuk mountains. As the name suggests it, Kaptol was in medieval times the seat of church authorities, renewed after the liberation from the Turks in the 18th century. Even if small, the place has still a certain urban character, entirely different from the typical Slavonian villages.

Flag of Kaptol

The symbols of Kaptol are described in Articles 5 and 6 of the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Kaptol (text), adopted on 26 June 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published in 24 November 2009 in the Municipality official gazette Službeni glasnik Općine Kaptol, No. 3.

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.

The flag is described as "monocoloured red, in width to length ratio 1:2. In the centre of it at the crossing point of the diagonals, on both sides is set the coat of arms bordered with a golden/yellow ribbon".

The coat of arms is described as "in a semicircular shield, in red field a golden key, a bishop's staff and a sword" ("Gules an epicopal staff or between a key also or wards to the chief dexter and a sword erect argent hilted and pommed or").
The church of Kaptol is dedicated to St. Peter, so the charges refer to the saint and the former bishopric.
