The municipality of Veliki Grđevac (3,313 inhabitants in 2001, 1,358 in the village of Veliki Grđevac) is located 20 km south- east of Bjelovar.
Veliki Grđevac is the birth place of one of the greatest Croatian writer for children and youth, Mato Lovrak (1899-1974), who was also briefly a teacher in the local school.
Željko Heimer, 10 June 2005
The symbols of Veliki Grđevac are described in Article 8 of the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Veliki Grđevac, adopted on 27 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published in the Municipality official gazette Službeni glasnik Općine Veliki Grđevac, probably repeating the previous Statutes (2006).
The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka, and approved by the Ministry of Administration / Central State Office for Administration before 2006.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, light blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

Coat of arms of Veliki Grđevac - Image by Željko Heimer, 6 September 2013
The coat of arms is "Azure a otter or holding in its mouth a fish argent standing on a millwheel of the last".
The millwheel is probably related to Mato Lovrak; in one of his most sucsessful books, Družba Pere Kvržice, a mill plays an important role. The municipality actually restores an old mill, now named for the book.

The former coat of arms is composed of the Croatian checky field, a red field with two corn ears and two oak leaves and the blue field with the castle on a green hill between two golden stars and two golden bars inscribed "GORDOWA", the old name of the town. In the middle is a green shield with letters "VG".
There has probably not been a flag prescribed to go with it, but it might have been put on some unofficial flags by the municipal authorities nevertheless.
