[Aircraf marking of Guinea, 1959-1962] 1959-1962
by Željko Heimer 22 October 2001

The Force Aerienne de Guinee was formed in 1959. Both Cochrane & Elliott, 1998, [c2e98] and Wheeler, 1986, [whe86] report the first roundel used in period 1959-1962 of the colour order - from outside green-red-yellow. See
The second one is used after 1962 red-yellow-green, reported also by Album 2000 [pay00]. See

However, while [whe86] report a fin flash as in above, the [c2e98] anbd [pay00] report that there is no fin flash. Well, it seems that each one saw a different photo...

[Fin Flash of Guinea] Fin Flash
by Dov Gutterman 22 Oct 2001

Well, since it have only 2 Helicopters and few aging Migs, I guess that we won't see any new photo in the near future....

The [c2e98] mentions that the aircraft markings of Guinea are virtually the same as that of Ghana, Mali and Bolivia. Also, very similar to Rwanda (that "sometimes" used the national flag, distinctive with black R, on the fin) [in the mean time Rwanda changed the national flag in 2002].

Note that Guinea and Mali have indeed a long common border. It is weird that nobody in their respective Air Force noticed the possible confusion between airplanes from the two neighbour states.
