Whitby Yacht Club, Whitby, North Yorkshire
The Whitby Yacht Club (WYC)
was formed in June of 1932 in Whitby, North Yorkshire. The Club sponsors a
varied program consisting of ocean sailing races, bay races, cruises and fishing
competitions. It should not to be confused with the Whitby Yacht Club of
Ontario, Canada, although the two cities are in fact sister cities. Interesting
enough, the WYC clubhouse is located on Pier Road above the Royal Navy
Lighthouse Museum. Once an RNLI lifeboat station, this Victorian double
boathouse now includes lifeboat history with paintings, medals, photographs and
mementos from famous wrecks and rescues.
The burgee pennant of the club
has the blue club logo near the hoist end and the blue letters W.Y.C. on the fly
side on the yellow field.
