A series of cigarette cards display Oxford Colours from 1848. The boat clubs
are referred to as Isis Societies - the River Thames is called “The Isis” in
Oxford. The men on the cards are obviously rowing, but you can’t see the oars.
The rowers wear some kind of T-shirt in colours of their society, either striped
or simply trimmed, straw hats and neckerchiefs.
The ratio of the flags is
something unusual, I have drawn them at 5:6.
