Villefranche-sur-Saône (31,213 inhabitants), the former capital of Beaujolais, is located on the river Saône, 30 km north of Lyon.
The rowing club Aviron Union Nautique Villefranche (AUNV, website) was founded in 1906. Its most famous member is Frédéric Dufour, silver medalist in the Olympic Games of Athens in 2004. The burgee of the club is horizontally divided in four triangular stripes white-green-red-white with the French national flag in canton.

Yacht Club du Rhône (YCR, website), founded in 1935, is based in Saint-Germain-au-Mont-d'Or, a town located upstream of Lyon on the river Saône. Therefore, Rhône in the name of the yacht club refers to the department of Rhône and not directly to the river Rhône.

The burgee of YCR is a triangular white flag with a cross made of two horizontal blue stripes crossing two vertical red stripes.
YCR was founded as a subsidiary of Yacht Club de l'Île-de-France, and its flag was derived from the YCIF flag.
