Presentation of Marsac-sur-l'Isle

Marsac-sur-l'Isle (3,143 inhabitants in 2021, 1,005 ha) is a commune near Périgueux in the Dordogne department.

In 1181, the first known written mention of the place appears.
During the revolutionary period Marsac lost nearly half of its territory (north and west of the town: hamlets of La Croix-Herbouze, Les Combeaux, Terrassonie, Lespinasse and Chercuzac) to the benefit of the neighboring commune of Chancelade.

It took the name of Marsac-sur-l'Isle in 1961 to distinguish itself from other French towns with the same name.
