Annaburg Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, a rose bush proper, i.e. blossoms Gules, leaves Vert and stems Sable on a sod Vert.
Meaning:
The arms had been introduced in 1678. They are referring to the legend, that there had been always many dog roses (Latin: Rosa canina) in the area. Acc. to "Deutsches Städtebuch" the oldest version displayed a bush with three blossoms. The 1st city seal from 1678 however displayed five blossoms. The arms had basically remained the same since then.

The arms were approved on 7 December 1993 by district governor (Regierungspräsident) of Dessau and registered by LHA in Magdeburg as 59/1993. The details of the current pattern were fixed in 2000 by the local central services department as a base of the production of city flags.
