Untermaßfeld Coat of Arms

Shield quartered, 1st and 4th quarter Sable latticed Argent; 2nd quarter Or a hen Sable armed Gules on top of a triplemount issuant Vert; 3rd quarter parted per fess, above a double headed eagle issuant Sable, beneath chequered of Argent and Gules.
Meaning:
The 2nd quarter displays the arms of the Counts of Henneberg, to whom the village was granted in 1230 by the Bishopric of Würzburg. The 3rd quarter is also referring to the counts, because they were appointed as Burgraves of Würzburg in the 12th century. They used the pattern in their oldest seals. The other quarters are referring to the local prison, which was established in the 19th century.
