Altenthann Coat of Arms

Shield Or, on a triplemount issuant Vert a fir Vert, chief Sable charged with pliers Argent.
Meaning:
The arms are canting, displaying a fir (German: Tanne) on top of a mount. The name means "old forest of firs" and the mount is alluding to the location on the edge of the Bavarian Forest. The mount is also alluding to the Frauenzell Nunnery and had been part of its arms. The nunnery owned the local district (Bavarian: Hofmark) since 1664. The pliers (German: Zange) are a canting element of the family arms of the Zenger kin, who ruled the district since 1392.
