Schönau Coat of Arms

Shield Vert an oak leaf Or in centre of a German wheel Argent, base embattled Or parted by a fess wavy Sable.
Meaning:
The German wheel (Deutsch: Rhönrad, name giver are the Rhön Mountains), is a gymnastiv apparatus, patent registered in 1925, invented by Otto Feick, son of a cooper in Schönau. The oak leaf and the green colour are symbolising the Rhön Mountains and the local forests. The fess wavy is a representation of the name giving Brend River. The embattled line of partition is alluding to the local moated castle from the 13th and 14th century. Its remains still exist. The tinctures golden and black are those of the Barons of Bibra. Anton of Bibra bought Wallbach Castle in 1489. Emperor Friedrich III granted privileges to the kin, among others the high level cognisance. The kin died out in 1602.
