Marbach Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per pale into two golden (= yellow) fields, which is very unusual. The dexter side shows three black antlers ordered per pale. The sinister side shows a silver (= white), embattled tower, entwined by vine creepers and grape bunches in natural colour. The tower has a red roof shaped like a pyramid. The roof is topped by a red ball.
Marbach gained city rights in 1250, granted by Count Ulrich von Württemberg. The oldest known seals, dating from the end of the 13th century, are already displaying the tower. The oldest prints are dating from 1301. In addition to the tower the shield of the Teck family, divided lozengy (golden and black), is present on the seal. In the 15th century the tower was used on the seal besides a shield with antlers, the arms of Württemberg. Since 1547/1593 the tower was entwined by creepers of vine. Marbach is the birth place of famous German poet Friedrich Schiller.
