Description of coat of arms:
In a silver (= white) shield is a green, rooted alder. A red, lying moon crescent, having a face, is fixed upon the stem.
Meaning:
Acc. to the directorate of the State Archive of Baden-Württemberg the alder is a canting element. The moon as a symbol of Bönnigheim is symbolizing the close relationship with the Lordship of Bönnigheim. The red moon in a silver field appears also in the arms of the Lords of Wöllwarth, who established a parish in Erligheim in 1571.
