Au Coat of Arms

[Au municipal CoA] image by Valentin Poposki, 26 Oct 2019

Shield parted per pale, at dexter parted per fess of Or and Vert, at sinister chequered of Sable and Argent 21 times (3:7).
Meaning:
The dexter half displays the family arms of the Snewlin Bernlapp of Bollschweil kin, the sinister half those of the Barons of Baden. The Snewlin kin ruled the village as an Austrian fiefdom from the end of the 15th century until 1581. The Barons of Baden bought the village in 1696. In the 19th century the village used two seals. The first displayed a scythe blade and a plough share in saltire, the second an inverted plough share surrounded by branches. The current arms were adopted in 1899, but the other patterns still prevailed. To end the ambiguity the current arms were confirmed in 1965.
