Moosthenning Coat of Arms

Shield Argent with base Vert, under a chevron Gules an impending sinister facing lion´s head of the same.
The green base is symbolising the fertile soil in the valley of the Isar River and is also representing the drained swamps. The most important local districts (Bavarian: Hofmarken) had been Moosthenning and Thürnthenning. The chevron is taken from of the Stinglheimer kin. The family lived in Thürnthenning between the 13th and 17th century. The lion´s head is the heraldic animal of the Auer kin from Winkl, who owned the districts of Ottering and Thürnthenning until the beginning of the 18th century. The tinctures red and silver are reminding on the Pelkofer kin, who ruled the Moosthenning district between the 14th and 16th century. The current municipality was established in 1978 by a merger of Rimbach, Dornwang, Lengthal, Moosthenning proper, Thürnthenning and Ottering.
