Based in Toronto, it has a division in each province and some 1,000 community branches all over the country. The Arthritis Society traces back to the Canadian Rheumatic Disease Association, formed in 1936 in Ottawa, and refounded in 1946 as the Canadian Rheumatism Association (CRA); incorporated in 1947, the Canadian Arthritis and Rheumatism Society (CARS) was renamed the Arthritis Society in 1977. - The Arthritis Society website

On 5 November 2006 in the morning, members of the ArthroAction team of the Arthritis Society, displayed the flag of the Society on the top of Kilimanjaro. The event was part of a fundraising campaign of the Society. The flag, shown on a photo published in "Le Jacques Cartier" on 22 December 2006, is blue with the emblem of the society - a blue bird - enclosed in a white square with rounded angles.
