Description of the Flag

The flag and arms of Sul Brasil are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 24 promulgated on 17 May 1993.

Article 1.
a) The municipal coat of arms of Sul Brasil shall have the following meaning regarding its shape, color and details.
a.1. A red horizontal scroll outlined in black inscribed with the date of emancipation of the municipality, "30/09/1991", and the name of the municipality in the center, black letters and numerals.
a.2. On the shield's right side, on the red scroll, a maize plant with ripening cobs and green leaves, symbolizing one of the municipality's main sources of income.
a.3. On the shield's left side, a bean plant wrapped in the red scroll with green leaves, symbolizing one of Sul Brasil's main crops.
a.4. On the shield in the right upper canton a globe, a book and a quill, symbolizing education and culture in the municipality.
a.5. In the upper left quarter, symbolizing animal breeding in the municipality, three animal heads - bovine, pig and poultry bird.
a.6. In the upper part, four red towers symbolizing force, union, people's commitment and equality, source of income, through work, for the citizens.
a.7. In the upper part, in the center, a glazed (brown) tobacco plant symbolizing another source of income.
a.8. In the shield's central part five stars (Southern Cross) symbolizing people's whole resources.
a.9. Also in the central part, wavy mountains representing the "hilly" topography of Sul Brasil; an orange tree representing an alternative crop in the municipality; three eucalyptus representing preservation of the natural environment (reforestation), and a blue background, representing people's tranquility.
a.10. In the shield's lower inner part, a plow representing manual labor in agriculture.
a.11. On the shield's upper and lower inner parts, a brown background representing soil fertility
a.12. The municipality's name is easily identified on the red scroll, originating in the company that sold plots to the earlier farmers, Companhia Territorial Sul Brasil [South Brazil Territorial Company].

Article 4.
The municipal flag of Sul Brasil has the same dimensions as the national flag, as prescribed by Law No. 5,700 promulgated in 1970, Article 21.

Article 5.
The municipal flag of Sul Brasil is composed of four colors arranged as follows.
a.1. White, represented by a vertical stripe placed at the flag's left, covering 33.3% of the flag's total area. The central part of the stripe shall be charged with the municipal coat of arms of the municipality of Sul Brasil.
White represents peace and honesty.
a.2. Celestial blue, represented by two horizontal stripes, one in the flag's top and the other in the bottom, covering together 74.43% of the space assigned to the horizontal stripes. This total does not include the space assigned to the star in the right side of the upper stripe.
Celestial blue represents tranquility.
a.3. Light green, represented by an horizontal stripe placed in the center of the horizontal stripes, covering 14.43% of the space assigned to the horizontal stripes.
Light green represents hope.
a.4. White, represented by two small horizontal stripes, one of each side of the green stripe (upper and lower parts) covering 11.15% of the space assigned to the horizontal stripes.
These stripes also represent peace and honesty.
a.5. Yellow, represented by a star placed in the flag's upper right part.
Yellow represents wealth and people's good luck.
