Edith Cowan University is a new university with its main campus located in Perth, Western Australia, and with a branch campus at Bunbury. The university was named after the wife of Sir Zelman Cowan, himself a distinguished educator and a former Governor General of Australia. The University Logo can be seen here.
As the logo is in a rectangular shape, I wrote to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor asking whether the logo was also used as a flag. I received the following e-mail from the University Office of Information and Media Relations:
Ron Lahav, 30 December 2005[. . .]
Thank you for your request for information regarding the Logo of Edith Cowan University, which has been forwarded to our office. It is true that the Logo is in a rectangular format, and it is therefore often used as a flag. One often sees it flying from automobile radio antennas, at athletic contests, student parties, and the like. However, it is not in any sense an Official Flag, having never been recognised as such by either the Governing Body or the Vice-Chancellor, and therefore does not fly over any of the University Buildings. However, the Logo Flag is widely recognised and as widely used, and most people in the Perth area would identify it as the ECU Flag. The university as such does not have an official flag, but one can say that the ECU Logo Flag is an Unofficial Official flag, so to speak. To my admittedly uncertain knowledge, there has never been an attempt to have this or any other flag adopted as an official ECU flag.

I trust that this answers your questions about the ECU Logo flag. We appreciate your interest in Edith Cowan University and thank you for contacting us.
