About the district

The Partido de Olavarría is located at center-south of the province of Buenos Aires, at 342 Km from the city of La Plata, capital of the province. It is 7,659 Km² and it had a total population of 103,961 inhabitants in the last census (2001). Its main economical activities are agriculture and stockbreeding.

The town of Olavarría head of the district was founded in 1867. The district was created by provincial law in 1878.

In 1995 during the 116 anniversary of Sierras Bayas a contest for a local flag was made. The proposal made by the girl Fiorella Nesci was chosen between more than 40 designs. The jury was formed by Mónica Ward y Mabel Mineo from the Plastic Arts School of Olavarría. The flag was presented the following year.
