The Band

PWTPN is a state recognized tribe, one of Wampanoag bands.
"Tradition Council of Chiefs of the Pocasset Wampanoag Tribe also know as Troy Indians. Listed as Federal Tribe 1822 by US Dept of War. The tribe has a Council of Chief''s representative of the body of the tribal members. Chief's are picked by Clan Mothers of each Clan to serve the family. The Pocasset's have absorbed the Royal Massasoit Family at Wattupa Reservation Fall River MA. There territory went from Tiverton RI to Middleboro MA inclusive of Taunton. Tribal members are inclusive of Nemasket's Assowampsett's, Acoaxet and Pocasset's. Weetamoe the Squaw Sachem of the Pocasset sent her warrirs to fight with King Phillip in King Phillip's War with the colonists.
