Goochland County lies in central Virginia, along Interstate 64 between the cities of Charlottesville and Richmond. The county is generally seen as a bedroom community for Richmond, with people commuting into Richmond and neighboring Henrico County to work each day.
The flag of Goochland County features the county seal centered on a white field. In a circle around the county coat of arms are the words "GOOCHLAND COUNTY VIRGINIA" in black letters, with the year "1727" below the coat of arms to commemorate the county's founding.
