Description of the flag

I was sent the digital graphic of the flag by the borough themselves. The Borough flag was designed during a flag contest back in 2014, the winning design was made by Mrs. Kelly McKean. You can find the original design along with the other finalists here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/800039260075912/permalink/892912360788601/ . However a physical flag wasn't produced until a couple years later, at least according to this Facebook post which shows the flag in front of the borough hall: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1694046220620653&set=gm.1390489314364234.

Tidioute looking for a flag design

Tidioute Council is building civic pride and soliciting plans for an official Tidioute flag.

“The idea came up at a borough council meeting,” said Tidioute Council member Kevin Bonner. “Members present thought it would be a great … idea, as Tidioute has never had an official flag.”

“Rules were drafted based on accepted principles of flag design and the contest was announced,” Bonner explained. “The Tidioute Community Charter School (TCCS) quickly became a partner in the venture and is requesting flag designs from all the students through art class, but anyone at all is able to submit a design for the competition.”

Council hopes to have an attractive representation of the riverside village that boasts the annual Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing tournament, the annual WWII re-enactment, is a popular tourist attraction and draws hundreds of hunters each year.

The contest began in August.

Flag designers are instructed to submit only one design of their choice, in color on legal-size paper (8.5″x14″), in color using crayon, marker, paint or other medium, or graphic art (computer) technology. Designs must be accompanied by a short summary of why the imagery and colors in the design were used (this must be on the back of the flag design page and legible).

Names should not appear on the designs. Submissions will be accepted by the TCCS or at the Tidioute Borough Building by close of business on Nov. 1. Designs will be logged on a sheet and issued a number (names will be on the entry sheet next to the number the design is assigned. That assigned number, not a name, will be placed on the design to ensure anonymity during judging). Artwork must be entirely original, unpublished and must not infringe any third party’s rights.

Council is discouraging designers to use the high school mascot, a bulldog, or the high school colors, black and orange, unless they are used in combination with another color or colors.

Council members and Mayor Pam McLaughlin will judge the entries as well as members of any sponsoring organizations or businesses and the principal and art teacher at TCCS.

Prizes will include $100 cash for first place; $75 for second; and $50 for third plus the honor of having their flag created using the winning design and raised for the first time in the borough at the annual Fishing Tournament next year. After that date, other flags may be purchased by the Borough, local businesses and individuals and flown with pride.
