Description of the flag

The Florida Department of Corrections is headquartered in Tallahassee and operates and oversees the state's prison system. The third-largest prison system in the country, the Florida Department of Corrections has 143 facilities state-wide, more than 100,000 inmates, a budget of just over $2.4 billion, and more than 23,000 employees. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_Department_of_Corrections)

I found a couple photographs of the Department's flag on the Internet, including one of a department honor guard posting colors at a Florida correctional facility (www.dc.state.fl.us/oth/honorg/Wakulla2.JPG). Based on that photograph and others, the flag of the Florida Department of Corrections features the Department's seal in black and gold centered on a black field. The seal features a gold-colored map of Florida surmounted by a compass rose. At the center of the compass rose are an interlocking "D" and "C" standing for the Department of Corrections. The name of the agency and the State of Florida are arched above and below the map and compass rose in the border of the seal.
