According to https://www.rbc.ru/rbcfreenews/67a0eb419a794716c4154d7f, city authorities of occupied Mariupol adopted a flag on 2 February 2025. According to the article:
The Mariupol authorities have approved new official symbols of the city, said acting head of the city district Oleg Morgun. "The new flag and coat of arms were developed by specialized experts based on the previously existing coats of arms of the city of Mariupol", he wrote. According to him, the white and blue background of the coat of arms denotes the location of Mariupol on the shores of the Sea oAzov and the historical features of the city's foundation. The silver (white) color of the upper part of the coat of arms also symbolizes metallurgy as one of the foundations of the city's economy. The anchor means that Mariupol is an important seaport, Morgun added. He noted that the flag was based on the coat of arms of the urban district and repeats its symbols.Daniel Rentería, 8 March 2025
