It is a fairly typical Portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a white and black background quarterly (town rank).

The arms are Azure above a mound Argent enhanced Sable issuant from the base and charged with wavy fess of the field an eagle Argent displayed and looking at a sun Or in center chief. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town status) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "Pedrógão Grande". "Pedrógão" is a cognate of "_pedra" (= "stone") and an archaism for "crag", which makes the stony hill issuant from the base on the coat of arms a canting element.

Pedrógão Grande municipality had 4398 inhabitants in 2001 and consists of 3 communes covering 128,59 km2. It is part of Leiria District, traditional province and 1999 ref. adm. region Beira Litoral, C.C.R. / NUTS II Centro, and NUTS III Pinhal Interior Norte.
