Coat of arms

The shield is Vert a scallop Or cornered by four owls Argent emphasized Sable with beak Sable and eyes Gules set 1:2:1. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "CORUJAS". The shape of the scroll is the one favoured by heraldrist José Bénard Guedes.
Meaning:
"Corujas" means "owls" and those on the arms are canting for that. The scallop stands for St. James the Elder, the patron of the Catholic parish that is (or once was) conterminous with this commune.
