It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a ield quartered of purple and yellow.

Shield Or an escallop Purple garnished Argent, a chalice Gules filled Sable, an oilcan Vert all set one and two, on base wavy Azure two barrulets wavy Argent. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "SANDE - LAMEGO"
Meaning:
The escallop is an attribute of St. James the Elder, the local patron saint. Chalice and oilcan are representations of agriculture, especially viticulture, more precisely the production of port wines, and oliviculture. The base wavy is a representation of the local Varosa River.

Sande was one of the 14 communes of Lamego Municipality not affected by the 2013 changes ; it had 811 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 3,13 km².
