It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of blue and yellow.

Shield quartered Azure and Or a church Argent, flanked at base by two olive branches Vert fruited Sable, and in chief cantons two grape bunches Purple leafed Vert. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "VILA NOVA DE TAZEM".
Meaning:
The church is depicted as a representation of the actual Neo-Romanesque 1903 local parish church, ,dedicated to Our Lady of Assumption. That may be one of the reasons why this coat of arms was not officialised, along with the more clear-cut issue of Or on Argent.see . The photo above mentioned shows ,how the charges on the shield are also different than as shown in the Hiperglobal image, where shield is Or and not parted, with less detailed olive branches and a simplified depiction of the church (a beautiful building, if you ask me), the local parish church, and the whole thing shows an unreadable reverse, even though it is all appliqued and embroidered, not printed.

The symbols in use have not been approved officially. The Portuguese local heraldry law discourages non-stylised representations, see law and shield partitions.The shield there is not plain Or but quartered Azure and Or — the same pattern as the flag itself and the church is not stylised.

Vila Nova de Tazem is one of the ten communes of Gouveia Municipality not affected by the 2013 changes ; it had 1469 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 15,77 km².
