Coat of Arms

image from Facebook

The coat of arms was adopted on 20 June 1987, being designed by the architect Gloria Iglesias Montes. It was adopted through a call from the council for submissions. Above the shield is a tree with two wolves through it, a reminder that the municipality is part of Durango. The shield is surrounded by two branches: to the left of wheat and to the left bearing fruits. In place of their intersection, there is a bow in the national colors for patriotism. The shield is divided into two, with a triangle going from the bottom to the top. To the left, a head of cattle for the cattle-raising industry, cotton bud for agriculture, and processing machine for industry are seen. To the right, a watermelon, two ears of wheat, and melon (?) are seen as products of sustenance here. To the left of this, a mining helmet and lamp remembering the mining industry. The triangle depicts the Ojuela Bridge, which it is primarily known for, over a canyon with two people to the left. The mountain range is depicted above over blue, with a ribbon above this reading "1598 Firmes a través del Tiempo 1598" [Firm through Time; 1598 when it was founded].
