Local Council Menahamiyya was established as Melahamiyya in
1901, as the first 'colony type' settlement of the Jordan
Valley-Kinnereth region. Renamed in 1921 following the visit of
the British High Commissioner Herbert Samuel. (Menahamiyya is
named after the father (named Menahem) of the first British
Commissioner in the Mandate era,
Herbert Samuel). Situated between Tiberias
and Bet She'an and got 1,400 inh.
Local Council since 1951.
Menahamiyya was probably celebrating something when I visited it,
since it was covered with flags. The unofficial flag is yellow
with the emblem in natural colours. The municipal emblem was
published in the official gazette (Rashumot),
'Publications Gazette' section (Yalkut HaPirsumim), YP
1560, 16 October 1969.

I received a letter from Mrs. Ariela Koren, Local Council
mayor's secretary, dated 14 October 2001, informing me that "the
authority's flag is yellow fabric charged with black (sic)
emblem". However, the emblem I saw had red houses and
green palmtree...
