Overview

Zalahaláp is a village in Veszprém county, Hungary near the Lake Balaton. Neighbouring settlements are: Tapolca town, Hegyesd, Sáska and Nyirád villages. The settlement has got 1058 inhabitants (Hungarians; 2001 census). The name of the settlement has got two parts: Zala and Haláp. Zala relates to Zala county - the village was part of the county till 1950. Haláp relates to the Hill Haláp - one of the old volcanoes of the Tapolca Basin - you can see the form of the hill in the coat of arms. In the red field of the shield there is a gold plough relates to the agriculture, there is a gold vineyard relates to the famous vines of the Balaton Highland.
The colour of the flag is white by the 5/1999 /IX.15./ resolution, but I have seen two light blue flags in official use in the village. The ceremonial flag of the village has got gold fringes in the three edges.
