The municipality of Saint-Grégoire (9,890 inhabitants in 2019; 1,730 ha) is
located just north of Rennes.
Saint-Grégoire was founded around the 8th century by a bishop of Rennes who, on his return from a pilgrimage to Rome, brought back, if not the relics, at least the cult of St. Gregory the Great in office, 590-604). The old church is said to date from the 11th century. Initially Romanesque, it underwent additions in the 15th century and was extended in the 19th century, to be eventually restored in 1972.
