Description of flag #1: It is nearly the same like the HAPAG saltire
flag, but in the yellow shield are black dotted capitals “E.V.” over “A.G.”.

There is an actual flag of this company here,
which might be of interest as it varies from the versions shown by the
FOTW page mainly confirming the 1st version shown by Klaus-Michael with
a black anchor but also showing a different colour for the shield frame
[unlike the HAPAG flag which can be found on the same page] and having
a foul anchor [the marcollect source shows the same but nowhere as clear].
The 2nd version shown by Klaus-Michael with a red anchor, not fouled,
may have been an actual. From what I can make out they never became shipowners
until post WW2 acquiring the "Lauting" [ex German naval vessel] by 1956
and it is shown by the Esso 1956 and 1958 publications as well as the 1957
Flaggen & Schornsteine same format. I agree it is doubtful but it is
shown by reasonable sources so worth recording

Description of flag #2: The same like #1, but the anchor is red, which
is perhaps erroneous.
