It's a 3:5 dark blue and white vertical bicolor; on the blue panel, the words "Alleghany County", set in two lines of slightly wavy text and with black serif capitals, above a short golden scroll with similar letters "NC" (standing from "North Carolina") separated by a five pointed faceted white and gray star pointing upwards, and bellow an identical scroll with the inscription "1859" (incorporation date?) in the same face and style. On the white panel a round landscape motive, showing a sunset over green hills, a patch of maize field and three black cattle animals.
